How SNAP EBT Deposits Work

SNAP benefits are deposited electronically onto your EBT card each month on a schedule determined by your state. Most states stagger deposits across several days based on your case number, Social Security number, or last name — this prevents grocery stores from being overwhelmed on a single day and ensures a smoother shopping experience for everyone. Some states, like North Dakota and New Hampshire, deposit everyone's benefits on the same day.

Your deposit date does not change from month to month — it stays the same for as long as your case is active. If your case is closed and reopened, you may get a new case number and a different date. Benefits are typically available by 6:00 AM on your scheduled date, and they load automatically — there is nothing you need to do to trigger the deposit.

If your deposit date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, your benefits are still deposited on that date. The EBT system runs electronically and does not pause for calendar events. The only exception might be if your state's processing office experiences a technical outage, which is rare but does happen. If you believe your deposit is missing, wait 24 hours past your scheduled date and then call your state's EBT customer service line.
